NILFISK-ADVANCE AS – NEO New electronic platform

Nilfisk is a leading global supplier of professional cleaning equipment and services, and its products are used by businesses and consumers in more than 100 countries. One of the challenges they faced was needing to continue to develop innovative cleaning equipment while also finding ways to reduce product development and manufacturing costs.

Challenges

Nilfisk needed a hardware and software platform that could be utilized in multiple product lines to keep component and software complexity low across product lines. This meant that the platform had to be extremely versatile and cost-sensitive, which presented a significant challenge. The company also needed a platform that could be easily scaled up or down to meet changing demand, and it had to be flexible enough to accommodate a range of products and applications.

Solution

To address these challenges, Nilfisk partnered with DIS/CREADIS to tackle this cross-product hardware and software platform challenge. The project was co-developed in DIS/CREADIS's Project Hotel. A Project Hotel is a dedicated space on a DIS/CREADIS site where a customer can develop their product or process and work closely with DIS/CREADIS engineers. All phases from concept to delivery were done inside Nilfisk’s Project Hotel.

The first step was to create a mock-up of the platform, which took 2.5 months. This was followed by the development of a prototype, which took 4.5 months.

Benefits

The benefits of the new hardware and software platform developed by DIS/CREADIS were significant. The platform provided full functionality for more than 100 products on three hardware platforms, which improved functionality and reduced product complexity and was cost-neutral even for high runners.

The new platform also had a simple and scalable software architecture that made it easy to scale up or down as needed, and it was flexible enough to accommodate a range of products and applications. This allowed Nilfisk to develop a platform that could be easily adapted to meet the changing needs of its customers, while keeping costs low and maintaining a high level of quality.

Why DIS/CREADIS

DIS/CREADIS was an ideal partner for Nilfisk in developing its new hardware and software platform because of their extensive experience in hardware and software development and for its innovative approach to problem-solving. DIS/CREADIS has a proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions on time and within budget, and because Nilfisk had taken up residence in a Project Hotel, they were able to work alongside DIS/CREADIS engineers in a project dedicated space to ensure that the platform met all its requirements.

DIS/CREADIS’s expertise in 3D scanning and modeling also helped to ensure that the platform was designed to fit seamlessly into Nilfisk’s existing products and processes.
