Wind: OEMs & Subsuppliers

All areas of the wind sector are currently experiencing the effects of ‘The Race to Scale’ the industry wide effort to rapidly increase the production and deployment of wind energy technologies to meet the escalating global demand for clean energy.

Scaling up doesn’t just mean producing more; it also involves enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of wind energy systems, which can be a significant challenge for OEMs and sub suppliers as it requires continuous innovation, advanced engineering, and optimized production processes.

Further fueling ‘The Race to Scale’ is the development of increasingly larger Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs). However, designing and manufacturing these behemothic turbines present their own set of technical and logistical challenges. Balancing the benefits of increased energy yield with the complexities of constructing, transporting, and installing these larger-than-life turbines is a delicate act that requires deep industry expertise and advanced engineering solutions.

Backed by our 25+ years of experience working with wind sector OEMs, we at DIS/CREADIS are well-versed in providing design and optimization support at various component and subsystem levels of next-gen WTGs. Our deep engineering experience, coupled with our ability to deliver turnkey solutions for WTG service, installation, logistics, and testing equipment, allows us to offer a strong foothold at the intersection of industry insight and forward-thinking technological expertise.

Our extensive expertise allows us to offer holistic engineering services, as well as Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCm) and project management support, encompassing both facility and technology aspects. We partner with you at every stage, from the initial feasibility studies and technical due diligence, through the detailed processes of construction and commissioning. Our partnership extends into the operational phase, providing robust asset management and precision-tuned operations and maintenance services to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of your assets and facilities.

At DIS/CREADIS, we believe in the power of collaboration and work closely with our clients through a partnership approach, adopting a one-team model. This allows us to deeply understand your unique needs and objectives, resulting in tailored solutions that reduce time-to-market and decrease both capital and operational expenses. Let’s harness the potential of the wind together, creating a prosperous future.

How SENSEWind accelerates time to market for Self-Erecting Nacelle and Service system with DIS/CREADIS’ concept development expertise

The costs of assembly, installation, operation, and maintenance of wind farms are rising, driven by increases in WTG (wind turbine generator) size and ideal wind farm placements moving to harder-to-access locations (e.g., deeper, more remote waters). For Onshore, the cost of just crane usage for a turbine installation can amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars every day, and even more offshore where specialty vessels are required.

OVERCOMING WIND TURBINE COMPONENT AS-BUILT DATA LIMITATIONS WITH SITE SCAN AND 3D CAD MODELS

The wind industry is no exception to the multiple handoffs of service contracts that can occur between Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). One of our customers needed to develop a major component exchange procedure and maintenance documentation for an expired service contract of a wind turbine that had been taken over from one OEM by another. However, the customer faced limited access to as-built data, making this task challenging.

STIESDAL - GROUNDBREAKING FLOATING WIND TURBINE FOUNDATION DESIGNED TO BE COST EFFECTIVE, EASILY ASSEMBLED, AND SCALABLE

Renewable energy is poised to take center stage around the globe with wind generated power as one of its main sources. Until recently, wind farm projects have been limited to locations that are either onshore or in the shallow waters of the North Sea, the Chinese coastlines, and Eastern coast of the United States. Stiesdal, Shell, RWE, and TEPCO have partnered on the TetraSpar Demonstration Project to solve this problem and allow for wind generating turbines (WTGs) to be floated in deeper waters around the world. The TetraSpar Demonstration Project is a floating wind turbine prototype that is operational at the Marine Energy Test Centre (METcentre) near Stavanger, Norway.

PP Techniq - Strength in collaboration - discreadis helps ensure anchor point safety

PP Techniq A/S specializes in providing technical solutions for wind turbine blade repair and maintenance. They offer advanced blade access platforms which are safe, flexible, and easy to operate. The SQYFlex™ is their newly developed blade access platform. The platform can be raised up and down and adapts to the shape of the blade giving full access and alleviating the need to remove the blade for service. PP Techniq recently implemented an anchor point on their service platform, allowing them to replace personnel, equipment, and materials on the platform while it is attached to the wind turbine blade. This solution saves time by avoiding the process of lowering the platform down to the base and returning it to the blade when replacing personnel.

PP TECHNIQ - SETTING A NEW INDUSTRY STANDARD IN BLADE ACCESS

PP Techniq A/S is a company that specializes in technical solutions for blade repair and maintenance in the wind industry. Wind turbine blades can be damaged or degraded by several factors including sand, ice, rain, sun, and lightning striking the moving blade and have serious adverse effects on its leading edge and structure. PP Techniq set out to set a new standard for blade access platforms and become a preferred solution in the blade repair market, both onshore and offshore. The platform needed to ensure minimum assembly time on site while still being flexible and without compromising safety for the crew working on the platform. To design this platform, PP Technique needed an engineering partner with extensive experience in the wind industry.
