Wind: Offshore Developers & Operators

A vital part of the global drive towards renewable energy, the Offshore Wind industry stands as a testament to the immense potential of sustainable power generation.

The sector, already contributing a substantial proportion to the global renewable energy mix, has experienced a significant uptick over the past decade.

As of 2023, offshore wind farms have a combined capacity of over 40 GW worldwide, a figure projected to increase exponentially over the coming years. This upward trend is supported by advancements in technology making offshore wind energy increasingly efficient and cost-effective.

An exciting development in the industry is the emergence of floating foundations for offshore wind turbines. This innovative technology unlocks the potential for wind farms in waters too deep for traditional bottom-fixed structures, opening up vast new territories for renewable energy generation. At DIS/CREADIS, we’re proud to have already provided pioneering engineering solutions in this nascent field, reinforcing our commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Navigating the Offshore Wind industry comes with significant opportunities, as well as unique challenges. For developers, owners, and operators looking to venture into or expand within this dynamic sector. With over 25 years of wind engineering experience, DIS/CREADIS is well-positioned to help your overcome the unique challenges of the offshore wind industry. We acknowledge the intricate nature of grid integration and the design of electrical infrastructures and offer our expert advice to ensure your offshore wind farm is effectively incorporated into the grid.

The costs of assembly, installation, operation, and maintenance of wind farms are rising, driven by increases in WTG (wind turbine generator) size and ideal wind farm placements moving to harder-to-access locations (e.g., deeper, more remote waters). For Onshore, the cost of just crane usage for a turbine installation can amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars every day, and even more offshore where specialty vessels are required.

STIESDAL - GROUNDBREAKING FLOATING WIND TURBINE FOUNDATION DESIGNED TO BE COST EFFECTIVE, EASILY ASSEMBLED, AND SCALABLE

Renewable energy is poised to take center stage around the globe with wind generated power as one of its main sources. Until recently, wind farm projects have been limited to locations that are either onshore or in the shallow waters of the North Sea, the Chinese coastlines, and Eastern coast of the United States. Stiesdal, Shell, RWE, and TEPCO have partnered on the TetraSpar Demonstration Project to solve this problem and allow for wind generating turbines (WTGs) to be floated in deeper waters around the world. The TetraSpar Demonstration Project is a floating wind turbine prototype that is operational at the Marine Energy Test Centre (METcentre) near Stavanger, Norway.
