Opalum is a Danish company that offers a range of complete, wireless sound systems with ultra-thin loudspeakers designed to provide superb, resonant, and rich sound for various devices.
Opalum succeeded in developing a technology which renders thick power cables for loudspeakers superfluous. At the same time, they based the invention of their products on a digital platform—instead of an analogue platform—and then revolutionized the possibilities by developing a small chip capable of optimizing sound quality, even in small thin cabinets.
Challenges
As a newly established company, Opalum needed to find a way to access deeper knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and software engineering without incurring high costs. They also needed a space to innovate and share ideas with talented engineers.
Solution
Opalum decided to move into one of DIS/CREADIS’s Project Hotels, where they were able to utilize all DIS/CREADIS’s competencies when they needed them and only pay for them when they were used. They could choose between all DIS/CREADIS’s skills and competencies, from designers and mechanical/electrical engineers to software specialists. This allowed Opalum to keep their costs down and only engage consultants from DIS/CREADIS when necessary. DIS/CREADIS has been involved in several projects for Opalum, including brainstorm sessions, mechanical engineering, and software development.
