Enhancing collision simulation software: upgrading system for improved validation
Plastic Omnium is a supplier of automotive exterior components that uses simulated collisions for validation when developing components. The company uses a pendulum equipped with sensors to reconstruct the collisions, and a program controls the required test stand. The collision simulation software needed to be upgraded to an updated technical level.
Challenges
The interaction between the measuring technology and the computer’s control system had to be optimized to achieve an improved simulation of collisions. The software used for the collision simulation had to be upgraded to meet the updated technical level. The system had to deliver the required results according to standards.
Solution
Plastic Omnium got in touch with DIS/CREADIS who first carried out an analysis of the system to identify the improvement and implementation potential. In connection with the analysis, it was found that there was not much improvement potential in the mechanical part of the system, but the software had very promising improvement opportunities.
DIS/CREADIS carried out the optimization by implementing the updated software and adapting it optimally to the environment. Additionally, DIS/CREADIS installed a computer that is compatible with the newly installed software, resulting in an update of the system’s technical level. This ensured that the system will be able to deliver the required results according to standards in the future.
