RATEL - DIGITIZING RAT CONTROL

Ratél is a Danish company that specializes in manufacturing products for poison-free, environmentally friendly, and ethically justifiable rat control solutions. They have developed a mechanical rat trap called RatTrap, which will reduce the number of rats in sewer systems with innovative technology. The RatTrap was also designed to send a signal when the trap had killed a rat for clean-up notification.

Challenges

The main challenge for Ratél was to develop an adjustable rat trap that could be placed in sewer systems and withstand the tough and difficult-to-access environment while sending kill report signals through the GSM network. They needed to lean on the expertise of an engineering consulting firm experienced in both mechanical, electrical, and software engineering.

Solution

The developmental elements that DIS/CREADIS was responsible for included idea development, 3D design work, strength calculation of affected components, testing of partial solutions using rapid prototyping, and design for manufacturing in relation to plastic molding of the complex plastic components. The trap is constructed as modules and can be used in all conventionally seized pipes from ø150 to ø500 millimeters (6 to 20 inches) in diameter. The trap is wirelessly connected to the GSM network and reports the number of killings to a custom-made portal.

Why DIS/CREADIS

Ratél chose DIS/CREADIS because of their expertise in designing and developing complex technical solutions. They needed a partner with the necessary competencies to help them develop a rat trap that could withstand the tough and difficult-to-access environment of sewer systems. DIS/CREADIS provided them with the necessary skills and competencies to complete the project.

The technology in the trap has given the municipalities the ability to comply with the legal rules for registering rat control in a clever and innovative way. In the effort to fight the rat population there is a constant need for new variations of trap solutions, and Ratél and DIS/CREADIS will continue to work on this together”, says Hans Knudsen, Managing Director at Ratél.

SKY-LIGHT – NEW FLEXIBLE ROBOTIC PACKAGING PRODUCTION MACHINE DELIVERES INCREASED SAFETY FOR NEW PLANT

SKY-LIGHT, a film and packaging manufacturer, has invested in a new production plant that required an efficient and safe packaging system. The previous manual processes were not optimal in terms of the working environment and safety, and the new plant had to be able to handle rolls weighing between 200 kg and 1800 kg (441 lb. to 3968 lb.). This meant that the packaging system needed to be very flexible and capable of adjusting to nine different packing methods. SKY-LIGHT did not have the internal resources to develop this system, and so they contacted DIS/CREADIS to take over the development, construction, design, setup, assembly, and commissioning of the plant.
