SIEMENS GAMESA TEAMS UP WITH DIS/CREADIS TO DEVELOP COST-EFFECTIVE WTG COMPONENT TEST METHODS

Challenges

Siemens Gamesa faced a challenge in finding new test methods for wind turbine components that could be implemented cost-effectively. The company wanted to create scalable tests for a bearing component and was looking for ideas and plans to execute the project. Creating a requirement specification for the project would be time-consuming and require significant resources, which the company lacked. Siemens Gamesa needed to find a partner that could help them create and develop ideas for the project while defining the project and preparing the requirement specifications.

Solution

Siemens Gamesa approached DIS/CREADIS to help create and develop ideas for the project. DIS/CREADIS was involved from the start of the project, facilitating a workshop and conducting several interview sessions with relevant Siemens stakeholders. DIS/CREADIS prepared the requirement specifications in close cooperation with key personnel from Siemens Gamesa. The requirement specifications described in detail how DIS/CREADIS would solve the various challenges the project offered, including a concept solution, a schedule, and cost optimization suggestions. DIS/CREADIS ran the project from start to finish and developed, produced, and tested the equipment for scalable tests of bearings, which were CE certified and met all specified requirements.

Why DIS/CREADIS

Siemens Gamesa chose to work with DIS/CREADIS on the development of the testing equipment due to the company’s expertise in wind industry specific engineering consulting. DIS/CREADIS was able to quickly add extra resources, skills, and knowledge to the project, speeding up the project and the processes. Siemens Gamesa trusted DIS/CREADIS and showed confidence in their abilities, making it easier to make decisions throughout the project and the development of the testing equipment. DIS/CREADIS took charge from the beginning to the end of the project, managing it according to Siemens Gamesa standards and demands on how to develop and implement development processes and products.

“If we, Siemens Gamesa, were to prepare the requirement specifications for this project, I do not believe we could have done it. DIS/CREADIS has done an enormous job here. They were able to realize our rough ideas into a project and ultimately into a final product. I am part of an extremely busy engineering department, which is also one of the reasons why we outsourced this to DIS/CREADIS. Lack of time and resources are deciding factors,” says Jan Jacobsen, Head of Department Hub at Siemens Gamesa.

OVERCOMING WIND TURBINE COMPONENT AS-BUILT DATA LIMITATIONS WITH SITE SCAN AND 3D CAD MODELS

The wind industry is no exception to the multiple handoffs of service contracts that can occur between Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). One of our customers needed to develop a major component exchange procedure and maintenance documentation for an expired service contract of a wind turbine that had been taken over from one OEM by another. However, the customer faced limited access to as-built data, making this task challenging.

STIESDAL - GROUNDBREAKING FLOATING WIND TURBINE FOUNDATION DESIGNED TO BE COST EFFECTIVE, EASILY ASSEMBLED, AND SCALABLE

Renewable energy is poised to take center stage around the globe with wind generated power as one of its main sources. Until recently, wind farm projects have been limited to locations that are either onshore or in the shallow waters of the North Sea, the Chinese coastlines, and Eastern coast of the United States. Stiesdal, Shell, RWE, and TEPCO have partnered on the TetraSpar Demonstration Project to solve this problem and allow for wind generating turbines (WTGs) to be floated in deeper waters around the world. The TetraSpar Demonstration Project is a floating wind turbine prototype that is operational at the Marine Energy Test Centre (METcentre) near Stavanger, Norway.

PP Techniq - Strength in collaboration - discreadis helps ensure anchor point safety

PP Techniq A/S specializes in providing technical solutions for wind turbine blade repair and maintenance. They offer advanced blade access platforms which are safe, flexible, and easy to operate. The SQYFlex™ is their newly developed blade access platform. The platform can be raised up and down and adapts to the shape of the blade giving full access and alleviating the need to remove the blade for service. PP Techniq recently implemented an anchor point on their service platform, allowing them to replace personnel, equipment, and materials on the platform while it is attached to the wind turbine blade. This solution saves time by avoiding the process of lowering the platform down to the base and returning it to the blade when replacing personnel.
