ARCEDI is a Danish biotechnology company that develops non-invasive prenatal diagnosis (NIPD) products. The company specializes in developing safe and reliable diagnostic tests for fetal chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome, without the need for invasive procedures. ARCEDI uses a unique approach to NIPD, which involves analyzing cell-free fetal DNA in maternal blood.
Challenges
The customer, a laboratory using ARCEDI’s technology, faced several challenges in automating their blood processing for cell-based non-invasive prenatal diagnosis. They needed help with automation and robotics, as well as insights into what components were needed to process a higher volume of samples. The company had been struggling with having to rely on a high degree of manual labor, which resulted in an inefficient and error-prone process. They needed a solution that would increase productivity, decrease error rates, and reduce labor costs.
Solution
DIS/CREADIS, was brought in to help solve ARCEDI’s production challenges. The DIS/CREADIS team developed a fully automated concept with a machine capable of processing the required volume of samples. Additionally, two robots were installed to reduce manual work and enable 24-hour operation. The system was designed to handle different types of samples, such as maternal plasma, serum, and whole blood, and could be customized according to ACREDI’s specific needs.
Benefits
The implementation of the automated process has resulted in several benefits for the customer. Now that the system is fully automated there is no need for human interaction during the process, reducing the risk of errors. The processing volume has increased from 8 to 24 samples in an eight-hour shift, resulting in a significant increase in productivity. The new system has also enabled ARCEDI to handle a higher volume of samples without the need for additional labor, reducing labor costs. The automated process has secured a stable output, ensuring reliable and accurate results.
