Challenges
Driven by an unwavering commitment to superior sound and quality, EPOS identified the pressing need to revamp their customized headsets for Aviation Traffic Control (ATC) and C3 sectors. Their aim: a cost-effective, scalable solution delivering high sound quality. To achieve this, they enlisted DIS/CREADIS as their comprehensive product development ally. EPOS’s requirements were multifaceted: they sought excellence in comfort, design, functionality, durability, innovation, sound experience, and product modularity. Furthermore, they required a partner capable of ensuring a flexible process accommodating the evolving needs in the development phases.
Solution
Product concepting and design: In an earlier collaboration, DIS/CREADIS had performed an engineering documentation process for EPOS, yielding crucial product insights. This foundational knowledge informed the current project’s trajectory. Leveraging these insights, new products were conceptualized, designed, and analyzed for elevating the next product generation, all while adhering to EPOS’s stringent quality and aesthetic standards. The project’s essence was to metamorphose baseline requirements into a diverse range of products, each boasting distinct configurations, yet maintaining high modularity. Additionally, the project encompassed collaborations with a third-party design house for the industrial design and strategizing mass production.
Product engineering: DIS/CREADIS further handled the engineering process covering mechanics, electronics, and audio. Utilizing CAD drawings, mechanical components were devised, and 3D printed at the DIS/CREADIS facilities in Poland. In the electronics realm, the team relied on the foundational documentation to guide modifications and determine requisite verification tests. A similar strategy was adopted for the audio segment, with a strong emphasis on software development, iterative testing, and sound sampling. Once the software reached its pinnacle of maturity, it was transitioned to EPOS’s manufacturing counter parts.
Technical documentation: DIS/CREADIS ensured that all documentation was in place for the tier-1 manufacturer and maintained involved until several product samples were constructed and validated. Only after these rigorous checks and balances did an official handover occur, and mass production could commence.
