Grundfos is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of pumps and pumping systems, providing solutions to customers in the water supply, manufacturing, food, and beverage, and building services sectors. The company has a strong focus on sustainability and has over 60 years of experience in developing, selling, and servicing pumps.
Challenges
Grundfos’ challenge was to develop an innovative solution that would enable people in the world’s poorest regions to access safe drinking water using only their mobile phones. The LIFELINK project required the development of software as well as the construction of the actual tapping unit. Grundfos needed a partner who could help them develop the prototype and pilot project quickly and efficiently.
Solution
DIS/CREADIS was chosen to help develop the pilot project and the first prototype of the innovative solution. DIS/CREADIS developed the prototype at their workshop, and the project was completed within a short and concentrated development period. The solution consisted of a Grundfos submersible pump powered by solar panels or wind turbines. The pumped water was stored in an elevated water tank and led by gravity to an automatic tapping unit. Users insert a smart card with a built-in chip in a slot at the water tapping unit to tap water. The water credits are pre-paid to the smart card via mobile phone banking.
