VELUX, a renowned leader in the development and distribution of roof windows, has consistently strived to bring natural light and fresh air into homes and buildings worldwide. With an unwavering commitment to innovation, VELUX’s dedicated Innovation department continually explores new avenues that bring increased daylight and fresh air to people’s lives.
Challenges
In their pursuit of fresh ideas and concepts, VELUX’s Innovation team recognized the need for collaborative support and guidance to ensure the successful development of a new roof window concept. They sought a partner who could provide unbiased perspectives and help them stay on the right track. DIS/CREADIS emerged as the ideal choice to fulfill these requirements.
Solution
To meet VELUX’s specific requirements and leverage their provided materials, DIS/CREADIS assembled a highly competent team and devised a streamlined ideation and development process. The approach consisted of a half-day session followed by short sprints of 1-2 days, accompanied by weekly follow-up sessions to share status, and prioritize even further. This ensured progress and continuous qualification of concepts and ideas as their feasibility became clearer.
Throughout the process, all materials were prepared at the idea/sketch level to capture the essence of the innovative solutions VELUX desired. This flexible setup allowed VELUX to deep dive into any given idea they found promising, as the prioritization was agreed upon jointly between VELUX and the DIS/CREADIS team.
To ensure an abundance of brainpower and diverse perspectives, DIS/CREADIS tapped into one of their 35 Communities of Practice (internal communities consisting of engineers specialized in Mechanical, Electrical, Digital, Power, and Automation Engineering). In this case, the focus was on the community within plastic design, engaging over 30 skilled engineers who provided their unique angles on solving the problem. The subsequent workshop became a breeding ground for sorting, maturing, and selecting the most promising ideas for further refinement.
How we collaborate
>>
The collaboration between VELUX and DIS/CREADIS has flourished over the past decade, marked by successful projects such as product updates, process simulation, development, implementation and optimization of production equipment and much more.
When VELUX approached DIS/CREADIS for this particular project, they were pleasantly surprised by the speed and efficiency with which a team was mobilized. Within just one week, DIS/CREADIS assembled the right experts, and aligned with VELUX’s expectations and requirements. Through swift mobilization of resources, efficient execution, and competent guidance throughout the ideation and development process, DIS/CREADIS enabled VELUX’s Innovation team to hit the ground running without any delays.
Furthermore, DIS/CREADIS made sure to explore every possibility, thereby helping VELUX validate and refine their own ideas while uncovering alternative solutions that might have been overlooked initially. This valuable phase prevented VELUX’s Innovations department from pursuing unfeasible product concepts and ensured that no potentially game-changing solutions were missed.
